WWE Canceled Blockbuster WrestleMania 42 Plans For Roman Reigns And CM Punk

Roman Reigns and CM Punk are headlining WrestleMania 42 Night 2.

The OTC won the men’s Royal Rumble match and chose to challenge The Best in the World for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, the match was supposed to be different.

Seth Rollins was supposed to be the World Heavyweight Champion, taking on Reigns as the challenger. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury at Crown Jewel 2025 and had to relinquish the title.

CM Punk won the vacant title against Jey Uso, giving him the WrestleMania 42 main event spot.

WrestleMania 42 plans were significantly different for Roman Reigns and CM Punk

During an interview with Jacob Heyman ahead of WrestleMania 42, he revealed that the WrestleMania 42 matches for Reigns and Punk were different. Things fell apart when Rollins got injured, so WWE pivoted to Reigns vs. Punk, which changed Punk vs. Bron Breakker as well.

Otherwise, Seth Rollins would have remained a part of The Vision, and Paul Heyman would have been a part of the main event.

I don’t think it’s a big secret that everything was driving this year to be Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns, and then that fell apart. And then it was going to be Bron Breakker vs. CM Punk, and that fell apart.

I was in line to be a part of the main event, and fate intervened not once, but even twice.

Paul Heyman states that Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns and Bron Breakker vs. CM Punk had previously been planned to main event WrestleMania 42:

The Vision’s Logan Paul and Austin Theory are on the WrestleMania 42 match card against The Usos in a six-man tag team match. IShowSpeed will join The Vision, while LA Knight will join The Usos.
