WWE Allegedly Testing Returning 4-Time Champion: “You Gotta Eat Cr*p”

A former champion has recently returned to WWE after almost six years of absence.

Matt Cardona joined the Stamford-based company in 2005. Over the next 15 years, the 40-year-old competed in WWE as Matt Cardona, winning the Intercontinental Championship, United States Title, and Tag Team Championship.

Nevertheless, Cardona was released from his contract in 2020. He went on to triumph on the independent circuit following his departure, becoming the Indy God.

The former Intercontinental Champion recently fulfilled his dream of returning to WWE. He is currently active on the SmackDown brand, where his wife, Chelsea Green, also performs.

Veteran Claims WWE Is Testing Matt Cardona

On a recent episode of his The Stevie Richards Show, the former Hardcore Champion addressed Matt Cardona’s booking since his WWE comeback. Although he won his first match back against Kit Wilson, Cardona lost to Trick Williams two weeks later.

Richards claimed Triple H and WWE are currently testing the 40-year-old star.

I feel for the guy because you know what? this is the ‘you gotta eat cr*p, pal, for six months. We’re testing you to see how your attitude is.’ So, when he came back, he came back as Zack Ryder and he did the, ‘I’m back.’ And then he got beat and he was gone. Then he won a match with Matt Cardona and you’re thinking, ‘Okay, well, Zack Ryder lost but Matt Cardona is a winner.’

Well, now versus Trick Williams, with no story, no build, no nothing, he just does a clean job. So what’s coming next WWE? Zack Cardona? Are we gonna have Matt Ryder? Or is it just gonna be, ‘Well, we beat those personalities, but that’s the most over.’ I feel for the dude because he is the template and the case for every worker. And maybe that’s why they’re doing it. [8:38 onwards]
