Will Ospreay is happy after his performance at AEW Double or Nothing.

The Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournaments kicked off at the AEW Double or Nothing PPV in Queens, New York.

When it comes to importance, “The Owen” is a celebrated tournament in AEW because the winners of the Men’s and Women’s tournaments will earn World Title shots at the biggest PPV of the year – AEW All In London in August.

In one of the big tournament quarterfinal matches, Will Ospreay beat former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe with the Hidden Blade elbow strike.

That win means that Will Ospreay is in “The Owen” semifinals, which means he’s just two wins away from getting an AEW World Title shot in his home country at All In London.

At the AEW Double Or Nothing media scrum, Ospreay spoke about how big a win it was for him.

“Over the moon to be advancing and taking one step closer to maybe fulfilling such a dream of mine to main event Wembley Stadium in my home country.”

Will Ospreay Has Completed Wrestling His Trifecta Of Wrestling Heroes

In many interviews throughout the years, Will Ospreay has spoken about how he grew up as a TNA fan rather than a WWE fan. Ospreay has even said he didn’t enjoy WWE much growing up, but he loved TNA.

One of the most famous TNA matches is the five-star match between AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Samoa Joe at the Unbreakable 2005 PPV. It’s a match Ospreay has called one of his favorites.

Since he got to wrestle Joe at Double or Nothing, Ospreay can now say he has wrestled the three guys who had one of the greatest matches in wrestling history. Ospreay spoke about what it meant to him.

“It blows my mind that I was lucky enough… being in there with Samoa Joe. I’ve said this so many times; the match that AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoe Joe [had] made me want to be a pro wrestler. I can’t tell you guys enough, right?

I am stupid, like proper stupid. I didn’t know what I was gonna do in my life, genuinely. And I watched this match take place, and I was just like, ‘That is exactly what I want to do.’

And I wrestled AJ; I wrestled Daniels. This was the last piece of that puzzle, the trifecta. So to get in the ring with Joe and earn his respect in the end, this is incredible. Like, I’m having the best time.” (H/T 411Mania)

Double or Nothing also saw Swerve Strickland beat Bandido in an Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament quarterfinal match.

Will Ospreay will face the winner of the Mark Davis-Jack Perry match in The Owen semifinals, while Swerve Strickland will face the winner of a Claudio Castagnoli-Brody King match.

Many fans are predicting Ospreay to win The Owen this year because he’s never been the AEW World Champion, and with the show taking place in his home country of England, it would be the perfect spot for his greatest career accomplishment.
