Vince McMahon Shockingly Had No Idea Who KISS Was

WWE’s connection to pop culture dates back to the 1980s.

It was around the inaugural WrestleMania when Vince McMahon and his company started teaming up with actors and musicians on storylines.

In fact, Mr. T and Cyndi Lauper were star attractions at the event, even contributing their share in and around the ring.

The Stamford promotion has continued this trend over time, bringing in the who’s who of the entertainment industry to either guest host one of their shows or compete in wrestling matches.

To wrestling fans, it might appear that McMahon rubbed shoulders with celebrities. However, a recent revelation suggests quite the opposite.

While speaking on Mic Check with Mr Anderson, former WWE head writer Vince Russo claimed that Vince McMahon was so much in the wrestling bubble that he was disconnected from the outside world.

He even revealed that the former boss did not know who KISS were, despite speaking to the band’s leader, Gene Simmons. McMahon also had no idea who Joe Walsh was; according to Russo, Walsh had offered to play Rocky Mountain Way at WrestleMania, but it did not come to pass due to McMahon’s ignorance.

Vince McMahon Allegedly Still Involved With WWE

Following the December 26, 2025, episode of SmackDown, Vince Russo speculated that Vince McMahon may still be involved in WWE’s creative process.

His theory was based on the segment featuring Joe Hendry, where he sang a song about The Miz’s “tiny balls.”

Speaking on The Coach & Bro podcast, Russo said the following:

Did you hear the lyrics to Joe Hendry’s SmackDown song? I remember the song. The entire song was built around Miz’s Tiny Balls.
Coach, who does that sound like to you? Who would be cracking up at the gorilla position over something like that?

This guy is still involved with this, bro. I’m watching this, I’m like, this is Vince. There is no question about it. Vince is slapping his leg somewhere thinking this is hysterical, bro. Everything we’ve learned, he’s never not been involved.
