Backstage Update On Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar At Backlash

Brock Lesnar suplexes Cody Rhodes

At Backlash in San Juan, Puerto Rico Cody Rhodes finally got his hands on Brock Lesnar in what turned into a bloody one-on-one battle.

Problems between the two men began on the night after WrestleMania 39 when Lesnar had seemingly volunteered to be The American Nightmare’s tag team partner against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa. However, before that match could begin, Lesnar scooped Rhodes up for an F5 and then brutalized him for several minutes before the show went off the air.

That led to the one-on-one match between the two men which headlined the Backlash event in Puerto Rico. Brock Lesnar dominated Cody Rhodes for much of the bout but Rhodes survived the F5 before sending Lesnar into the exposed turnbuckle which busted The Beast Incarnate’s head wide open.

Despite the blood loss, Lesnar managed to lock Rhodes into the Kimura but Rhodes managed to use his leverage to roll Lesnar up for the three count and the win.

Now Fightful Select has reported that WWE sources have claimed that the match between Rhodes and Lesnar went the way it was supposed to, indicating that blood was part of the plan. It was noted that there had been discussions about Bad Bunny and Damian Priest headlining the show but that didn’t end up happening.

Cody Rhodes is slated to be among the field of twelve to crown the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion with that tournament kicking off in a place Rhodes knows well as Raw emanates from Jacksonville, Florida.
