Triple H Reveals Truth About Rumored Heat With Cody Rhodes
One of the wrestling world’s most talked-about incidents occurred in 2019 at AEW Double or Nothing.
During the Las Vegas pay-per-view, Rhodes destroyed a throne using a hammer. It was seen as a direct dig not only at WWE but also at Triple H.
The moment is still etched in the minds of wrestling fans worldwide, as it showed Rhodes’ intent at making AEW the closest competitor of the Stamford promotion.
Expectedly, the topic became a part of the discussion when the WWE Chief Content Officer was a guest recently on Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast.
The WWE Champion kicked off the subject by revealing that Triple H never confronted him about it when The American Nightmare returned to the company in 2022.
You never once, when I came back, asked me about clearly taking your throne, making imagery in my entrance away from here, starting my own thing, and taking your hammer to it.
Responding to him, Triple H joked about the ‘size of the hammer,’ but claimed that he understood that Cody was trying to achieve something.
I saw it as your hammer because it was smaller than mine. That kind of s*** to me is like—when people brought it up to me, I’m like, ‘F***, alright, good for him.’ That’s the kind of s*** you do—you try to make a name for yourself, try to do some cool s***.
Believe me, if I thought there was some malice in it—and maybe indirectly there was some at the time, I don’t know—but if I thought there was any serious malice, I would have called you and said, ‘Hey, dude, are we okay?’
Sometimes you’ve got to get out of the rut you’re in—just bite it off and go in a different direction. But during that time, I remember thinking, ‘Alright, that’s getting out there. That’s being bold and making a statement.’
Triple H Congratulated Cody Rhodes On Title Win Outside WWE
Deeper into the discussion, Cody Rhodes provided his side of the story, claiming that Triple H encouraged that type of energy. He also revealed that Hunter was one of the first people to congratulat him when he won the Ring of Honor title.
You did tell me that, because you said, ‘Go rattle the cages,’ and you kind of made yourself the target for me to rattle in terms of the optics of wrestling. And there was no malice, for sure, because this is after I won the Ring of Honor title—one of the first texts I got back was yours, congrats, as I was walking to the hospital holding my first world title.
The WWE CCO then claimed that he always wished the best for Rhodes, even to the point where his company would want to bring him back.
It’s one of those things—you see somebody going off and doing their own thing, and I’m like, ‘F*** yeah—f***, Cody, come on! Get yourself in that spot where we’re like, ‘Hey, we should go get him. I don’t know what he did different, but let’s go get him.’
The discussion between Cody Rhodes and Triple H here highlights the mutual respect between them despite the fact that they represented rival companies at one point.
