Triple H Issues Official Statement On Roman Reigns’ Future After WWE RAW
Roman Reigns gets attacked on WWE Raw.
The Tribal Chief became the World Heavyweight Champion on Night 2 of WrestleMania 42 after defeating CM Punk in a singles match. He made his first appearance as champion on last week’s edition of WWE Monday Night Raw, where he addressed his championship victory.
Moments later, Jacob Fatu showed up and confronted him, demanding a title opportunity. Reigns gave him one week to rethink his request. On this week’s edition of RAW, Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu came face-to-face once again.
Fatu stated that he does not want the title, but he needs it for himself and his family. The two stars traded verbal shots at each other. Fatu then snapped and attacked Reigns in the middle of the ring.
He locked The OTC in a Tonga Death Grip and dropped the World Heavyweight Championship belt over a battered Reigns before exiting the ring. An infuriated Roman Reigns then grabbed the microphone and accepted Fatu’s challenge for WWE Backlash 2026.
Roman Reigns Vs Jacob Fatu Is Official For WWE Backlash 2026
Following their segment on RAW, Triple H went on Twitter to officially announce the matchup for Backlash.
Hunter tweeted, “EVERYTHING for the taking… @WWERomanReigns defends his World Heavyweight Championship against @werewolf_fatu at #WWEBacklash.”

The 2026 edition of Backlash will take place on May 9, 2026, at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa. This will be the first Backlash to live stream on ESPN in the United States.
In addition to Reigns vs. Fatu, Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, and Iyo Sky vs. Asuka have also been announced for the event. Both these matches were also finalized on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
Asuka vs. Iyo Sky was booked after Sky, after Asuka attacked Sky and cost her the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Becky Lynch. Rollins vs. Breakker was officially announced after Rollins challenged Breakker to a match at Backlash.
