Recent comments from Triple H prompted a WWE veteran to recall who came up with a famous promo for The Game.

During his wrestling career, Paul “Triple H” Levesque went through several distinct phases. In mid-1999, he became one of WWE’s top heels in the Attitude Era, and he was nicknamed The Game, a name he pushed in interviews as well.

A viewer of the Coach & Bro Show with former WWE veterans Jonathan Coachman & Vince Russo mentioned that Triple H said on the Cody Rhodes podcast that nobody wrote the “I am The Game” line he uttered in 1999. It was from a famous sit-down interview that Triple H did with Jim Ross, where he showed a lot of intensity, and many people called it a defining moment in Triple H’s career as a wrestler.

At the time of Triple H’s promo, Vince Russo was WWE’s lead writer, and he made it clear that the line about being The Game came from him. However, Russo wasn’t blaming Triple H for forgetting.

“I’m just going to write that off to Triple H forgetting because I’ve forgotten a lot of things. Guys, I have told you a million times. I wish I wrote ‘Austin 3:16’…I didn’t. I wish I wrote half of the stuff that came out of The Rock’s mouth…I didn’t. I know for a fact, 1000%, in a promo, I wrote that for Triple H.

Guys, there are just some things you remember. Like, there are a lot of things I don’t remember about the business, but there are things I truly remember. That was written in a promo where it was: ‘I don’t play the game, I am The Game.’

So I’m not going to sit here and call Triple H a liar or anything like that. I’m just going to write it off to Triple H forgot, as I have forgotten a lot of things throughout my career.”

Vince Russo Is Convinced Triple H Will Be Replaced As WWE’s Head Of Creative

There are a lot of people angry about the WWE creative process going into WrestleMania, and that falls on Triple H, who has the final say on WWE main roster creative matters.

While Vince Russo showed restraint regarding Triple H’s memory of “The Game” line, Russo has harshly criticized Hunter in the past, and even predicted that WWE would replace Hunter by the end of 2026. This is what Russo said in February 2026.

“You got Roman Reigns clearly saying we have great leadership in Nick Khan, but creative has to pick it up. We have great leadership in Nick Khan, but Triple H has to pick it up. Now, let’s piggyback down with this. The Rock’s daughter quitting the company. Let’s piggyback down with this, prior to The Rock’s daughter quitting the company, one of the things I am reading is Rock’s [daughter’s] girlfriend was released from the company a week earlier.

Now, we don’t know if that had anything to do with her leaving the company, but that is an extension of The Rock. The daughter’s girlfriend is his daughter. Roman Reigns is an extension of The Rock. I made this statement online. After that debacle called the Royal Rumble the other day, Coach, I am going to go out on a limb and say this, January 1st, 2027, Triple H will not be in the same role he is already in. I am 1000% convinced of that now.”
