Triple H Confirms Possible WWE Star’s Departure After Royal Rumble
Triple H has confirmed that a major superstar may depart WWE after Royal Rumble.
After retiring Goldberg earlier in 2025, Gunther ended John Cena’s career in December after forcing the Leader of the Cenation to tap out. The Ring General continued to brag about his victory over the 17-time world champion, which did not sit well with several superstars, including AJ Styles.
Over the past few weeks, The Phenomenal One feuded with Gunther. The two went head-to-head on the January 12 episode of RAW. Although Styles succeeded in making the former World Heavyweight Champion submit, the referee did not see it, which allowed the Austrian star to pick up the win.
When AJ Styles demanded a rematch at Royal Rumble, Gunther only accepted under the condition that the former WWE Champion put his career on the line.
Triple H Confirms AJ Styles Will Retire From WWE If He Loses To Gunther
Since AJ Styles’ match against Gunther was officially announced, fans and experts have been speculating on The Phenomenal One’s future. Some scenarios even suggested that the 48-year-old could keep his job, even if he loses to The Ring General.
However, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H confirmed Styles’ departure from the company if he fails to beat the former World Heavyweight Champion this Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a recent interview with ESPN.
John Cena retiring at the hands of Gunther, and not only retiring, but Gunther made him do the one thing John said he would never do, which is he made him quit. He made him tap out. A lot of people took that badly. Gunther’s been bragging about it. AJ Styles took that as disrespect. And Styles put his own career on the line if he cannot beat Gunther this Saturday at the Royal Rumble. So, the stakes could not be any bigger. AJ Styles’ legendary career on the line. If he loses, that’s it. [2:38 onwards]
