Backstage News On Plans For Toxic Attraction Joining Main WWE Roster
The NXT women’s tag team consisting of Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne were expected to move to the WWE main roster following their recent debut on Smackdown, but an injury has delayed that plan.
Toxic Attraction consists of NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose along with the tag team of Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne, who are two-time former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. The team of Dolin & Jayne replaced fellow NXT 2.0 wrestlers Zoey Starks & Nikkita Lyons due to an injury to Starks.
Dolin & Jayne pulled off the upset over veteran wrestlers Natalya & Sonya Deville on the August 19 episode of Smackdown when Jayne rolled up Natalya for the surprising win. However, Dolin suffered a concussion during the match and the team was removed from the tournament.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, it was reported that Dolin & Jayne’s match was going to be the official call-up to the main roster joining Smackdown. The team even filmed a video talking about how they were going to take over Smackdown, but then WWE took the video after finding out about Dolin’s injury. Regarding the match, Meltzer also wrote that “Dolin apparently forgot a lot of the match and Natalya had to hold the match together.”
To replace Dolin & Jayne in the tournament, WWE held a second chance Fatal 4-Way match on the August 26 episode of Smackdown. That short match was won by Natalya & Deville, who lost in the tournament semifinals to Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah.
It remains a possibility that Dolin & Jayne will be on the Smackdown roster when Dolin is cleared from the concussion, but that is not officially known right now.
The report from Meltzer did not say if Mandy Rose will be returning to the WWE main roster with her Toxic Attraction allies. Rose will defend the NXT Women’s Title in a triple threat match this coming Sunday at Worlds Collide on September 4 against NXT UK Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura and Blair Davenport. If Rose is going to the main roster with Dolin & Jayne then it’s possible she will lose the NXT Women’s Title there.
