Tony Khan Admits AEW Dynasty Card Had Significant Changes
The final card at AEW Dynasty was different than what Tony Khan had originally envisioned.
AEW Dynasty was the second PPV of the year, and it featured some big matches like MJF beating Kenny Omega to retain the AEW World Title, while Jon Moxley held onto the Continental Championship in a match against Will Ospreay.
While Dynasty was a strong show featuring several title matches and many huge names in AEW, there were also some people missing.
At the AEW Dynasty Post Show Media Scrum, AEW’s President, CEO, and Head of Creative, Tony Khan, spoke about how at least two major stars were unable to compete at the show.
“Many of the matches were the same, but there were several changes to the card. There are people out that 100% would have been involved.
One great example would be the former TNT champion Kyle Fletcher, who was out injured that happened a few weeks ago, who 100% I would have had involved in AEW Dynasty.
Also, ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm and I made many changes to this pay-per-view over the last few weeks. They would have both been a big part of it. They’re both a huge part of AEW, and anytime I can have Kyle Fletcher, The Protostar, or ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm involved in an AEW event, it’s very important.
So coming out of Revolution, I expected them to each be in matches on the show. So there’s more, and there’s other changes. Then, when you make changes like that, it leads to other changes. But I’m very proud. I think that we became uniquely conditioned during the pandemic period to make changes to a pro wrestling show.”
The former Women’s World Champion Toni Storm was taken out in a backstage segment on the March 18th edition of AEW Dynamite. No injury has been reported for Storm, and she hasn’t commented on why she’s unable to wrestle.
As for Kyle Fletcher, the former TNT Champion, he suffered a torn meniscus in his knee along with other injuries, and he’s out of action for an undetermined amount of time.
At Dynasty, a Casino Gauntlet Match was held to determine the new TNT Champion, and the match was won by Kevin Knight.
Tony Khan Claims WWE Wanted To Bring Chris Jericho Back
In his first AEW match in a year, Chris Jericho lost to Ricochet in a competitive match at AEW Dynasty. After Jericho returned to AEW earlier this month, Tony Khan confirmed that WWE wanted to bring Chris Jericho back, but Jericho chose to return to AEW instead.
“I do know Chris Jericho had a choice, and he wanted to be in AEW. He would be the best person to ask, but I know that I’ve been in communication with Chris, and he definitely told me he wanted to be in AEW—and very specifically in Winnipeg on that day.”
“We had that circled back for a long time, going back to last year. It was a choice that Chris made, that he’d rather be in AEW than anywhere else.”
“I can’t say for sure, Coach, exactly what his mind was, but I know definitely he has been consistent—he loves AEW and wants to be here, and I’m glad he chose AEW.”
“Because that’s a choice he made, because he was a free agent.”
