Tommaso Ciampa’s Tag Partner Breaks Silence On WWE Departure With Heartbreaking Post
On January 21, Tommaso Ciampa confirmed his departure from WWE.
Sharing a post on X, Ciampa wrote about everything and everyone he was thankful for during his decade-long stint with the Stamford-based company.
Ciampa had two stints with the promotion, with the latter earning him more plaudits than the previous one.
After re-signing in 2016, he formed #DIY with Johnny Gargano. The two-man tag team started its journey in NXT, becoming a one-time tag team champion.
Ciampa also became a two-time NXT Champion, whereas Gargano won it once.
After turning on Gargano at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in 2017, he earned the moniker ‘The Blackheart.’ The assault marked a significant shift in his character, placing him as the most hated figure on the developmental brand.
His character then transformed into a manipulative heel, which was symbolized by his dark-hearted and cold persona, which contrasted Gargano’s ‘rebel heart’ attitude.
Post Tommaso Ciampa’s announcement, Gargano broke his silence by posting a picture of himself on Instagram watching Ciampa on television; the post was captioned with a black heart emoji.

Tommaso Ciampa Is A Two-Time WWE World Tag Team Champion
After a stellar run on NXT, Ciampa was called to the main roster, following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at the 2022 NXT Stand & Deliver.
He continued with his heel run, forming an alliance with The Miz. In October, he suffered a hip injury that kept him out of action for several months.
Ciampa returned to WWE in June 2023 when he answered The Miz’s challenge, thus turning babyface.
In October, he was assaulted by Gunther’s Imperium faction, forcing Johnny Gargano to come for the save. It also resulted in the duo reforming #DIY.
The duo became two-time World Tag Team Champions, with their last title run lasting 98 days between December 2024 and March 2025.
#DIY was involved in a feud with Fraxiom. However, Tommaso Ciampa’s last appearance was on the December 19 SmackDown episode, where he lost a tag team match to Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes.
