The Undertaker On The “Horrible Transition” of Retirement

The Undertaker

He may have finally hung up his boots for the final time, but it hasn’t been easy for The Undertaker to transition in to retirement.

With his phenomenal WrestleMania record, it is fitting that his final contest took place at the 36th instalment of ‘The Showcase Of The Immortals’ where he beat AJ Styles in a cinematic Boneyard Match. As everyone would expect he has since been inducted in to the WWE Hall Of Fame, and was also granted a final farewell to say goodbye to the fans and celebrate his phenomenal career with his peers.

That doesn’t change the fact that some would still hope that The Dead Man could put on his ring attire one more time to create another special moment in a match. However, despite admitting he would if he could, the man himself has realized that would no longer be the right thing to do.

In a discussion with Hawk vs. Wolf, The Undertaker discussed that he wouldn’t be able to put on the performance which would be expected.

Absolutely. If I was physically able to do it, I would be out there right now. There is a huge amount of our fanbase that will grade you on a curve. They understand that you’re getting long in the tooth, you have a lot of miles on you, but they just want you out there. Then there is one part of that fanbase, ‘Ah man, he’s old, he shouldn’t be out there, he shouldn’t be doing this.’ Without any hesitation at all, if I felt like I could go and deliver, and deliver a performance that people expect when they see my name on the card, I would do it, but I know I can’t.

Continuing on, The Undertaker described the transition to retirement as horrible, feeling it’ll be hard to find anything which gives him the same passion as wrestling did.

It’s been a horrible transition. I don’t know that I’ll ever find a passion like I did for actually being in the ring. I’m doing the one man show, and I’m enjoying that and it’s new to me, so I can pour myself into it again, but I don’t know if I’ll ever have that passion that wrestling gave to me. I watch the product and I’m like, ‘damn, I would have done that differently.’

The Undertaker also recently discussed how he helped stop someone from taking their life.
