The Rock Says “There Might Be Another Match Down The Road”

WWE Icon and Hollywood megastar The Rock has commented on the possibility of him returning to the wrestling ring.

There has been a lot of speculation recently about the likelihood of The Rock returning to WWE for one more match. ‘The People’s Champion’ is one of the most legendary performers in the history of the company, but hasn’t competed in a WWE ring since WrestleMania 32 in 2016, when he made short work of Erik Rowan.

Prior to that, his last feud in WWE was against John Cena, who he wrestled at both WrestleMania 28 and 29. In the second bout, he tore his abdominal adductor tendons off his pelvis, delaying filming of the Hercules movie, something that was financially costly for the studios involved.

With this year’s Survivor Series marking the 25th anniversary of The Rock’s WWE debut at Madison Square Garden, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive with suggestions that the multi-time WWE Champion will make an appearance at the event and possibly even kick-off a feud with current Universal Champion Roman Reigns. However, it has since been revealed that ‘The Great One’ will be filming the second season of Young Rock in Australia at the same time Survivor Series takes place.

During an interview with comicbook.com to promote his new movie, Red Notice, The Rock was asked if he could see himself taking the Universal Championship from Reigns and defending it in the future. He said that, while he doesn’t know if it would be a title run, he does think there could be another match “down the road” if it made sense.

“I don’t know if I have another title run, considering I’m the People’s Champion, but I don’t know if it’s another title run,”

“I think possibly, you know, there might be another match down the road. It would have to make sense.”

He went on to praise Roman Reigns, saying that he’s “very, very proud” of the work his cousin’s been doing lately.

“It seems like Roman, you know, I’m very close with Roman obviously, and we talk about this all the time, and I continue to encourage him to keep doing your thing, keep sharpening those skills. I think he’s doing a great job with his promo, his execution, his in-ring work. It all continues to improve and grow. And that’s always the best part, I think, about that world of professional wrestling is that when someone gets anointed and given the ball to run, they either score a touchdown with it or they don’t. But then some, not only score a touchdown with it, but then they begin to change the way the game is played.

And in Roman’s case, he’s slowly doing that, and you could start to read the tea leaves. And again, I’m very, very proud of him. I like everything that he’s doing. I like everything that the Usos are doing. I like what they’re doing together, and we’ll see down the road.”

Roman Reigns once again successfully defended the Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel and his reign has now surpassed 400 days.

Adding fuel to the fire of a possible appearance from The Rock in the near future, WWE announced on Instagram that November will be a month-long celebration of ‘The Most Electrifying Man In All Of Entertainment’
