Swerve Strickland Scores Big Win Over AEW Champion on Dynamite

AEW star Swerve Strickland

The main event of AEW Dynamite tonight saw another newly crowned champion take on a former AEW World Champion, similar to the opening match of the night.

The night began with Samoa Joe’s win over one-third of the newly crowned World Trios Champion, Speedball Mike Bailey, and it was his partner who main-evented the night.

Former World Champion, Swerve Strickland, faced Bailey’s tag partner, and fellow Trios Champion, Kevin Knight, as he looks to work himself back into the AEW World Championship picture.

Strickland dominated from the opening bell, allowing Knight very little room to get offense in as MJF watched the action transpire from a private box in the Addition Arena.

Swerve Strickland picks up a huge win on AEW Dynamite

MJF was seen watching over Samoa Joe and Kenny Omega’s matches as well, as he keeps a close eye on his challengers. Knight looked to earn a surprise win over Swerve with a shock DDT but only got a two count.

Swerve followed that up with a Death Valley Driver on the ring apron, before hitting him with a piledriver on the guard rail. Knight was knocked out cold and only barely managed to get himself in to beat the referee’s ten count.

Strickland was taken by surprise by Knight as he hit him with a Mega Hurricurna from the top rope, and followed that up with a Coast to Coast and a UFO Splash for the win, but Swerve got his foot on the rope just in time.

He then hit two house calls on Knight after recovering, before hitting a Vertebreaker and a Big Pressure on Knight to pick up the win and move a step closer to the AEW World Championship.
