Shawn Michaels Reveals Truth About Rumored Affair With Vince McMahon
Shawn Michaels has responded to a shocking accusation about just how close he was with his former WWE boss, Vince McMahon.
During his incredible run as Shawn Michaels from the late 1980s until his 2010 retirement at WrestleMania 26, the “Heartbreak Kid” led a very interesting life.
Michaels was known for his partying lifestyle as one-half of The Rockers with Marty Jannetty. After Michaels broke free from the tag team in late 1992, he became a singles star who eventually became WWE Champion for the first time in 1996.
The bad boy behavior didn’t really stop for Michaels, who was known to take drugs and drink too much, while many people believed he was former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon’s favorite wrestler. When Michaels returned to WWE in the summer of 2002, he was a changed man who had found God and treated people much better.
Even though Michaels is in his 60s now and runs NXT, that reputation he had in the 1990s still lingers with other wrestlers who didn’t like him then. It even led to some people, like former on-screen rival Bret “Hitman” Hart, to accuse Michaels of sleeping with Vince McMahon and believe they were lovers. These comments were from November 2025.
“I think that Shawn and Vince were sleeping with each other. I’m just telling you, I think I’m very close to the truth here. Shawn and Vince were lovers. I’m being dead honest.
When I look back, it’s like I got caught between two lovers, and I got shafted and screwed over and Shawn was so envious and jealous of my position that he finally had to sleep with Vince to get it.
I would say it to Shawn if he was right here. I would actually like to have Shawn come clean and say, “Look, we were lovers.” Because I’m sure they were. If I saw either Vince or Shawn here, I would say I think you guys were lovers.”
It’s a major accusation from Hart about Michaels, who is married to a former WCW Nitro Girl, and the couple has two kids together.
Shawn Michaels Denies Involvement With Vince McMahon
Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels are both 2-time WWE Hall of Famers since they were inducted as singles wrestlers. Michaels was also inducted as part of D-Generation X, and the Hitman was inducted as part of the Hart Foundation tag team with Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.
At the 2025 Hall of Fame ceremony, Bret Hart also received a third induction for his legendary match with Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13, the first match WWE inducted into its Hall of Fame.
While speaking to The Masked Man Show, Shawn Michaels shut down The Hitman’s claim and even told a story about how the two men hung out at the WWE Hall of Fame last year.
“I hear whatever…doing things with Vince. I go, ‘Ah, what are you gonna do.’ Never happened. It’s the wrestling business. I’m never sure what’s out there to get a rise out of people. It’s the wrestling business, and I don’t put a lot of stock in that.
All I know is we had a nice conversation in the room (at Hall of Fame). I helped him put his suspenders on. There might be things he doesn’t like. I understand that. There are lots of things people don’t like. Everybody has a right to their opinion on everything these days. I don’t begrudge anyone on that.
I do what I can to focus on me and my life. We have a good time in NXT and I’m doing everything that I can to give back to the business that has been so good to me.
It sounds silly, I guess, because good news is not clickworthy. I live a positive, joyful life. It’s boring as hell to some people, but I’d rather do that than the other. I also say that I don’t want to be a bitter old timer, I feel like we get enough of those. Not to imply that anyone is.” (H/T Fightful)
Did Michaels just call the Hitman a bitter old timer with his final comment on the subject? That’s up to the reader to decide.
