Santos Escobar

Santos Escobar is our first victor in the WWE Smackdown World Cup!

Earlier on Friday before the airing of WWE Friday Night Smackdown, the eight contestants for the WWE Smackdown World Cup were announced: Braun Strowman, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sami Zayn, Santos Escobar, Mustafa Ali, Jinder Mahal, Butch and Ricochet.

Whoever wins the tournament gets a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship against GUNTHER, as well as a World Cup trophy from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

The first match of the tournament was on the November 11, 2022 episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown between Santos Escobar and Shinksuke Nakamure, with a solid back-and-forth between the two. Escobar would eventually go on to win the match to move on to the semifinals.

Santos Escobar, who is representing Mexico in the WWE Smackdown World Cup, now awaits his next opponent in the semifinal round.

TJR Wrestling also covered the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship match between The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) and The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) from November 11’s WWE Friday Night Smackdown — a bout that would see The Usos to retain to set themselves up to officially become the longest-reigning tag team champions in World Wrestling Entertainment history.
