The Montreal crowd loved their hometown hero Sami Zayn at WWE Elimination Chamber and Triple H was happy to talk about the reaction that Sami got.

While Sami Zayn may have failed at Elimination Chamber in terms of beating Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, he certainly won over the crowd in his hometown of Montreal.

It started on the February 17th edition of WWE Smackdown when Sami Zayn received an ovation that lasted about five minutes before he even said a word. Zayn delivered a message to Reigns that he was fighting against Zayn and the city of Montreal.

At Elimination Chamber, the crowd gave Sami Zayn one of the loudest ovations of any WWE superstar you’re ever going to hear. Fans all over the world have loved Sami during this incredible story with The Bloodline, but it was a special moment at Elimination Chamber when he got that ridiculous hometown pop during his main event match against Roman Reigns.

During the Elimination Chamber post-show press conference, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H, whose job it is to run WWE from a creative standpoint, spoke about the reaction that Zayn received from the crowd.

“For the average person or the average performer, if they were there the night before, they get a huge reaction, somewhere in my mind, I would expect, ‘tomorrow will be good, it might not quite be what it was tonight because they haven’t seen him for a long time. Tonight is the first night, tomorrow is the second time, and maybe a lot of the same people, maybe not. If it’s the same, it’ll be great, but if it’s slightly less, really good.’”

“For me, tonight, and last night, even just seeing the reaction that everything got, that Sami got, I had no doubt. I thought (at SmackDown), ’as good as that was tonight, he is going to blow the roof off this place tomorrow and when they see Roman, those special chants that they’re doing are going to be deafening. It’s a feel.”

While Sami Zayn is a current Montreal wrestler that is extremely popular, Triple H also mentioned the late, great WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson, who is a Montreal wrestling legend also.

“Pat Patterson, he used to always say, ‘it’s just a feel. This is what’s going to happen, and I know it, it’s a feel. I can’t tell you why, it’s just my gut. Go with your gut.’ It was a feel.

“Last night, I watched Sami, I watched everything that happened, and I thought, ‘tomorrow is going to destroy this. It’s going to be at another level,’ and it was. It’s just a feel. I felt it, I knew what it was going to be tonight, and thankfully I was right. Sami blew the roof off this place, it was spectacular.”

Looking ahead, Roman Reigns is off to the WrestleMania 39 main event when he defends the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes, who earned the title shot by winning the Royal Rumble. As for Sami Zayn, his road to WrestleMania remains a bit cloudy at this point.
