Royal Rumble 2023 Expected To Break Another Major Milestone

WWE Royal Rumble Arena

This year’s WWE Royal Rumble event will likely set a record in terms of having the biggest audience watching the show in the history of the event.

The 36th Royal Rumble event takes place this Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas with a huge crowd on hand along with a big audience watching at home too.

As usual, the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event will feature a 30-Man and 30-Woman Royal Rumble match that should each run about one-hour long each along with Roman Reigns defending the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion against Kevin Owens.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter (available via subscription), Dave Meltzer wrote about how this will be the most-watched Royal Rumble event among American viewers due to how many people have access to Peacock now.

“Due to the increase in Peacock subscribers, which hit 20 million at the end of 2022 (just over double the number of one year ago and roughly 48 percent more than at WrestleMania), it is a virtual lock that more Americans will watch this PPV than any Royal Rumble in history.”

“It will very likely beat either day of last year’s WrestleMania, which are the two record holders for most Americans watching a WWE PPV show in history. The record will also almost surely be broken for both days of WrestleMania.”

That’s in addition to some impressive record-breaking numbers regarding the live gate for the Royal Rumble at the Alamodome as well. This is also from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“The live gate record for the Rumble was broken some time back. As of press time there were 42,972 tickets distributed with a live gate that has topped $7 million. It was the largest live gate for any U.S. WWE event in history that wasn’t called WrestleMania, and beat most WrestleManias.”

“There was hope of hitting $8 million, a number that would equal or surpass Clash at the Castle ($8,020,000) for the largest non-WrestleMania live gate in pro wrestling history. The secondary market get-in price is $36. They will announce a figure in excess of 50,000 since they’ve already used that number on television.”

The WWE Royal Rumble takes place this Saturday, January 28th at the Alamodome in San Antonio with this lineup.

* 30-Man Royal Rumble Match

* 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match

* Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens

* Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

* Pitch Black Match: Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight

You can watch the Royal Rumble on Saturday, January 28, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, streaming live exclusively on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else!
