The NXT Tag Team Championships haven’t really had a focus on them as they have been in the past. The titles have been held by some of the most legendary tag teams all around the wrestling business.

The Vanity Project recently won the titles as they defeated DarkState for them, thanks to some help from Tony D’Angelo. However, the duo hasn’t defended the belts since winning them.

The NXT Interim General Manager, Robert Stone, made a huge announcement regarding the future of the championships and announced a major tag team tournament.

NXT Tag Team Championships brought back into focus tonight

Robert Stone announced that the tag team tournament will see multiple teams take part, and the winner will earn a shot at Vanity Project’s Tag Team Championships at NXT Stand And Deliver.

The tournament will feature the likes of The Culling, Hank and Tank, The Birthright, and the newly-formed team of Eli Knight and Sean Legacy. He even confirmed the tournament will kick off next week in Houston.

The first match of the tournament will see Hank and Tank take on The Birthright, who were joined by Charlie Dempsey tonight, as they look to earn a shot at the Tag Team Championships.
