Why Ric Flair Didn’t Like Charlotte Flair’s WWE WrestleMania 42 Match
Ric Flair says he didn’t like his daughter Charlotte Flair’s match at WWE WrestleMania 42.
On night 1 of the Showcase of Immortals this year, The Queen teamed up with her tag team partner Alexa Bliss to compete in a Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against the Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax & Lash Legend), Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, and Brie Bella & Paige (Nikki Bella’s replacement).
During the match, an injured Nikki Bella, who was present at ringside, interfered and attacked Charlotte Flair, which caused a distraction, allowing Paige to hit her Rampage finisher on Bliss for the win.
Ric Flair Wants Charlotte Flair To Return To Singles Competition
Speaking in a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Ric Flair was asked to comment on Charlotte’s WrestleMania 42 match.
Flair responded by saying that he didn’t like the match “at all” because she was wrestling in tag team action. He noted that Charlotte needs to return to singles competition and should push to be in the title picture or main event scene.
Ric also reflected on Charlotte’s WrestleMania 39 match with Rhea Ripley for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. Flair made it very clear that he wants to see Charlotte Flair back in her singles run, chasing a title:
“I didn’t like her match at all, and I think that Ashley needs to be a singles wrestler, and I know she enjoys her relationship with Alexa, but if Ashley is not in a title picture right now, in my life and as a spectator, without her in the main event in a singles match.”
“The match she had with Rhea Ripley two years ago, they’ve never had a match like that ever in the history of women’s wrestling, and Rhea’s getting gold as well, I’m putting them both over.”
Charlotte Flair formed her unexpected but highly successful tag team alliance with Alexa Bliss in mid-2025. They even won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam in August 2025 by defeating Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez.
They were champions for 100 days, during which they successfully defended the titles against The Culling, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, and Chelsea Green & Alba Fyre, before eventually losing the titles to the Kabuki Warriors on the November 10, 2025, episode of Monday Night Raw.
