The upcoming Royal Rumble will serve as a prelude to major storylines going into WrestleMania 42.

One of the most interesting plots is that of the Women’s Tag Team division, whose champions are Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky.

For several months, multiple teams have staked their claim to challenge for the titles, resulting in match interferences and other violent segments.

Ripley and Sky became the champions by defeating the Kabuki Warriors duo of Asuka and Kairi Sane on the January 5, 2026, taping of WWE Raw.

Since then, they have defended the titles once, beating The Judgment Day’s Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLIII. They will next face the Women’s United States Champion, Giulia, and Kiana James.

Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky’s Tag Team Opponent Predicted For WrestleMania 42

WrestleMania 42 is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 18 & 19.

While it is too early to make a match official, media reports about the possible line-ups have already begun surfacing.

On a recent episode of the Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE personality Sam Roberts extensively discussed the upcoming Royal Rumble event.

He also speculated that some tag teams could drift apart, considering the nature of the Royal Rumble match. Additionally, teams like The Judgment Day and Nia Jax/Lash Legend have already tried to drive a wedge between Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky.

However, Roberts stated that the duo would stick together till WrestleMania 42 at least, where they could defend their titles against the iconic team of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.

I think the team is too good, and I kind of think the team stays together through WrestleMania. I think their WrestleMania match, if it were up to me, at this point, I’d go RHIYO vs Charlotte and Alexa, and really build it up as a massive match. [52:42 onwards]
