Report: Randy Orton and The Revival Wanted to Become a Faction in WWE, But Vince McMahon Said No

The trio of Randy Orton and Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) were seen a lot together in the last few months. While Orton was feuding with Kofi Kingston during the summer including at SummerSlam, The Revival were feuding with New Day tag team members Big E and Xavier Woods.

You would think WWE would want Orton and The Revival to remain together, right? Nope. It’s not happening. Orton got drafted Raw in the recent WWE Draft while The Revival are Smackdown guys that are still the Smackdown Tag Team Champions.

There’s more to the story because Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp is reporting that Orton went to Vince McMahon to pitch the idea of a stable between Orton and The Revival, but Vince said no to that idea. Not only that, but WWE broke up the trio by putting them on separate brands.

As we covered last week, Orton and The Revival have done social media posts teasing the idea of working together again possibly for All Elite Wrestling. That’s because Orton’s WWE contract is reportedly set to expire in the summer of 20020 while The Revival are expected to be free in April 2020, but there have been reports that it may be longer.

TJR Thoughts: I liked the trio of Orton and The Revival. They worked so well together in the ring and when they had segments. I think it was a mistake by Vince McMahon to put them on different shows when they clearly liked working together. Perhaps Vince’s feeling is that he doesn’t want to use The Revival that way if he knows they are leaving in six months or whatever it is.

I think Orton and The Revival should be a faction. It’s a shame that it isn’t happening.
