Kairi Sane was recently released from WWE, but according to a new report, she could show up at Backlash.

Sane was part of a massive post-WrestleMania roster purge that saw approximately 40 Superstars released. She was let go on April 24, alongside other high-profile names such as Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Zoey Stark, and Wyatt Sicks.

Her departure was considered one of the most shocking, as she was in the middle of a prominent storyline with Asuka and Iyo Sky.

Following her release, it was reported that Sane immediately returned to Japan. However, a new report from Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer states that many within WWE expect her to appear at Backlash to wrap up her storyline with Asuka and Iyo Sky.

“Within WWE, it’s felt there is a better than 50% chance that Kairi shows up at Backlash to at least finish off that storyline.” [H/T WrestlePurists on X]

AJ Styles Confused With Kairi Sane’s Release From WWE

Dave Meltzer recently reported that Sane’s release was due to her desire to move back to Japan and was not related to financial reasons. Interestingly, AJ Styles has shared a different perspective, suggesting that Kairi Sane may not have left WWE entirely on her own terms.

“Yeah, I think everybody is a little confused, Asuka and her as a tag team, and then it just kind of. We don’t know exactly what the case is. I mean, that one caught me off guard as well. It was a great tag team thing. I feel Kairi was doing her best work, as of now.”

“So, I wish I had answers. I don’t have answers for you guys, I don’t. I don’t know what this means for her. I don’t know if she’s done wrestling. She’ll go back to Stardom, like, what’s next for Kairi Sane? I know that she was loved and she was amazing, and yeah, I just hate that.”

“I will say this. The first time that she left, she went home to Japan, and I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I doubt it was her choice because I feel she was going well.”
