A WWE legend once had to lie about being color blind.

The Big Show is one of the greatest big men to ever compete in WWE. He remained with the sports entertainment juggernaut for several years. During this time, he accomplished a lot in the WWE. He is a former World Champion and a Grand Slam Champion.

Big Show once weighed in at over 500 pounds. Since then, he has lost a lot of weight and now weighs in at less than 400 pounds. Being so big was not fun for the WWE legend growing up. He had to deal with a lot of difficulties and bullying.

WWE legend Big Show lied about being color blind

During a recent appearance on the High Performance podcast, Big Show described his childhood as brutal. The former WWE star said he used to get into a lot of fights as a kid because he was bullied by the older kids. He also recalled going to school with shoes that were different colors since his parents couldn’t afford new shoes. He then told the kids that he was color blind because he didn’t want to tell them he was poor. He then said that the kids made fun of him for being color blind.

“It was brutal. You don’t want to stand out for the wrong reasons and I didn’t grow up with a lot of like I got in a lot of fights when I was a kid. A lot of fights. And I wasn’t fighting kids my age. I was fighting older kids and adults. Older kids mainly because they picked on me. I remember going to school with one blue shoe and one green shoe in the wintertime because my feet were growing so big I was blowing my shoes out faster than my parents could buy them. But those were the only two shoes that didn’t have holes in them. So then I told everybody I was color blind. So I didn’t know I’m color blind. Then they made fun of me for being color blind. I wasn’t color blind—I just didn’t want to tell them I was poor.”

The WWE legend said that he had to learn about color blindness to keep his lie going. He also noted that these are the struggles a lot of young people have to deal with.

“So then I went to that school for a year, and it was like, ‘Oh, what color is this?’ And then I had to learn about being color blind of what colors you can’t see and what you can see—so I could fake it. Those are the things you go through as a youth where you put this pressure on yourself, and you think everyone’s coming after you, and you get wrapped up in your own bubble.”

The Big Show has come a long way from those days of being a kid who was bullied.
