Real Reason Why Jeff Hardy’s AEW Run Failed Revealed
Jeff Hardy’s in-ring acumen makes him one of the most sought-after talents in the wrestling business.
Jeff’s tag team and singles run in WWE earned him numerous accolades, including 3 world titles as a singles competitor and 10 tag titles with his elder brother, Matt.
In late 2021, he walked out of a tag team match during a house show and was sent home the following day. It turned out to be his final appearance in the company at the time. Five days later, he was released from his contract.
After completing his 90-day non-compete clause, he joined AEW in March 2022, where Matt Hardy had been employed for two years at the time.
The siblings then revived ‘The Hardys’ tag team. While it was undoubtedly an astounding acquisition for AEW, Jeff Hardy’s personal issues got the best of him, leading him to land in the wrong books of Tony Khan.
Matt Hardy Reveals Why Jeff Hardy’s AEW Run Failed
Both Matt and Jeff Hardy are currently signed to Total Nonstop Action, where they are the current TNA World Tag Team Champions in their fourth reign.
Speaking on his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the 51-year-old touched upon his younger brother’s failed AEW stint, claiming that Jeff’s personal issues created trust issues with Tony Khan.
He seemed good for a while. He just still had his demon – the big demon he has tattooed on him now. He still had that demon that was kind of holding him back. I don’t have any complaints about that at all. I understand why he [Tony Khan] was going to be having second thoughts about doing whatever with him. The sad thing is: Jeff’s had a few f**k-ups and then maybe at that point, Tony Khan was like ‘I don’t know if I can trust him.
Matt also referred to Jeff’s 2022 DUI arrest as the turning point.
The only positive I could say out of [the arrest] was that this was the straw that broke the camel’s back and made him change everything about his entire life. He’s been the best version of himself ever since then. [H/T: Ringside News]
