Real Reason For Trey Miguel’s Shocking AEW Release Seemingly Revealed
It seems that Trey Miguel has confirmed the real reason for his sudden departure from AEW.
AEW has put pen to paper with Zayda Steel and also brought in former TNA faction The Rascalz. However, questions quickly arose when only Myron Reed, Zachary Wentz, and Desomond Xavier debuted on screen. Trey Miguel, who was also the odd man out when Wentz and Xavier joined WWE previously, was nowhere to be seen.
It has since emerged that Miguel had signed with AEW, but just as quickly, he’s been released from his contract. Fightful Select reported the news first, but no reason was given for the surprise release, and things are said to have been amicable between Miguel and the company.
A further report from Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer suggested Miguel’s release was not a decision made by Tony Khan and may have come from further up the food chain, which suggested Warner Bros. Discovery was involved.
Past Comments Come Back To Bite Trey Miguel
Now, it seems that the reason for the release has been revealed after Miguel took to social media to address his past mistakes, indicating that previous controversial comments played a role in his release:
I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my time. I’ve always apologized and did my best to put a better foot forward after. I don’t preach hate and I don’t take any pride in being hateful. I’m a man of faith, I believe in forgiveness and only ever preach that. I’m a different man today.

In 2020, Trey Miguel made a homophobic remark when dealing with a troll on social media. He was also previously involved in a very public bust-up with disgraced former indie wrestler David Starr. Warner Bros. Discovery famously banned Jay Briscoe from appearing on its networks following his past homophobic comments. Like Briscoe, Miguel also apologised for his words at the time.
Jay Briscoe sadly passed away in January 2023 following a car crash. Following his passing, his brother Mark Briscoe joined the AEW roster on a full-time basis and has become one of the company’s most popular stars.
