“I Was Hurt” – R-Truth’s Heartbreaking Confession About WWE Departure
R-Truth was released by WWE last year. But he returned to the company shortly after.
Truth was informed that his WWE contract would not be renewed on June 1, 2025, which he publicly announced as a release. He made a surprise return just six days later on June 7, 2025, at the Money in the Bank premium live event.
R-Truth’s release and return storyline is featured on WWE: Unreal Season 2. Ahead of the release of the second season, WWE released a sneak peek video in which WWE CCO Triple H clarified that Truth was technically never fired.
The Stamford-based company simply opted not to renew his expiring contract as a negotiation tactic, hoping it would prompt him to talk. However, R-Truth took the initial call as a release and was “hurt” by the news.
“I got the call that my contract wasn’t going to be renewed, and I’m like, ‘so am I released? Am I?’ I took it as I was released. I just, I was hurt,” Truth said in the sneak peak video. [H/T Fightful]
R-Truth’s New Contract Length
While being interviewed by TV Insider, Truth mentioned that the new contract he signed with WWE last year was a four-year contract with a three-year option. His current agreement ensures his presence in the company at least until 2028, with a possibility of extending beyond this date.
“I signed a four-year deal with a three-year option. Again, that’s one of the things with the wrestling business. You’re going to have people that speculate and insinuate and throw things out there, but don’t know the back behind the story and the truth of it.”
