Paige & Brie Bella Escape With Title After Controversial Finish At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Paige and Brie Bella retained their titles following a controversial finish in a match against The Irresistible Forces at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLIV.

From the opening moments, Nia Jax and Lash Legend relied on their power advantage to take control of the match. They went after Paige right away, keeping her trapped on their side of the ring and away from Brie Bella.

The challengers utilized double-team maneuvers, punishing Paige with devastating body slams, corner splashes, and powerbombs that shut down every attempt at a comeback. After minutes of intense punishment, Paige finally countered a lariat from Lash Legend, creating enough separation to make a tag to Brie Bella.

The controversial finish to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match

The match heated up when Nia Jax tagged back in. She looked set to finish it with a slam, but Paige recovered just in time on the apron and tagged herself back into the bout.

As Jax focused on Brie, Paige blindsided Jax and attempted a sudden, desperate roll-up pinfall. As the referee counted, Nia Jax began to power out of the pin. Seeing her partner about to lose the hold, Brie Bella quickly grabbed Jax’s legs from outside the ring, adding illegal leverage to keep the powerhouse down.

The referee, focusing entirely on Jax’s shoulders, missed Brie’s interference and counted to three, allowing the champions to retain the title.
