Following teases across social media, it now appears a former WWE Superstar will not be facing off against CM Punk.

With Forbidden Door a week away, AEW and NJPW are building up dream matches including Bryan Danielson v Kazuchika Okada.

Following the announcement of CM Punk returning to AEW to star on Collision, one NJPW Star began pushing for the opportunity to finally step into the ring with the Strait Edged Punk.

KENTA has desired a match with Punk over the use of his finishing move, the Go To Sleep. Despite both spending time in WWE, a singles match between the pair is yet to happen.

After previous social media posts directed at Tony Khan to book the match, KENTA took to Twitter to update fans that “Kenta vs Punk is never going to happen.”

NJPW Strong Openweight Champion KENTA spent five years in WWE after joining in 2014 just as Punk went on his infamous hiatus.

Punk has been out injured since September 2022, and with his return to action coinciding with the upcoming Forbidden Door PPV, KENTA had hoped to join other NJPW Champions in Canada in one week’s time.

The Bullet Club member has appeared in AEW before, teaming with Kenny Omega to defeat Jon Moxley and Lance Archer in February 2021.

CM Punk made his hotly anticipated comeback during the debut episode of AEW Collison on Saturday night.

Punk opened the show carrying a bag to the ring, with wrestling boots around his neck. The former WWE Champion shared that until someone pins him or makes him submit, that he is still the AEW World Champion.

The Chicago crowd cheered as CM Punk unleased a catchphrase “tell me when I’m telling lies”.

Later in the Collision Main Event, Punk made a winning return to action delivering the GTS to Juice Robinson, ensuring that he and his tag team partners FTR ended the show with their hands raised.
