Nick Khan’s recent comments involving The Rock have sparked major controversy in the wrestling world.

In 2024, Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble and was scheduled to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 for the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, he gave up his spot to The People’s Champion, who wanted to face Roman Reigns one-on-one on the grandest stage of them all.

But due to fan backlash, WWE had to pivot in another direction and book Rock in a tag team match with Roman Reigns instead of a singles match against The Tribal Chief.

In a new interview, Nick Khan dropped a major statement, claiming that WWE never planned for Rock and Roman Reigns to have a singles match at WrestleMania 40. They had always planned to have them wrestle as tag team partners.

This directly conflicts with the narrative shown in the WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain documentary, which acknowledges that the intense fan backlash pushed WWE to pivot direction. Even Rock has made similar comments while addressing his Mania 40 controversy.

WWE President Nick Khan and TKO Board Member The Rock Are Not On The Same Page

Speaking on a recent episode of The Coach And Bro Show, Vince Russo and Jonathan Coachman discussed Nick Khan’s comments about The Rock and WrestleMania 40. Coachman stated that by saying all this stuff about WrestleMania 40, Nick has indirectly called The Brahma Bull a liar:

But to me, Vince, it’s a clear divide because you’re right. If they were all on the same page, they would get in the room and be like, “What is our message going to be?” And every time something comes out, it, to me, cements what you and I talk about all the time. He’s basically calling The Rock a liar. (From 12:17)
