New NXT Women’s Champion Crowned

Tiffany Stratton Lyra Valkyria NXT

There is a brand new NXT Women’s Champion following Battleground as Lyra Valkyria took on Tiffany Stratton for the vacant title.

Following the WWE Draft, Indi Hartwell addressed her status as NXT Women’s Champion and revealed that moving forward a tournament will take place to crown a new NXT Women’s Champion as she relinquished the title. The tournament began on the 9th of May and concluded at Battleground.

The final of the tournament saw Tiffany Stratton take on Lyra Vakyria which meant that no matter who won, it would be a brand new name in the history books as neither woman has held gold in NXT before.

To get to the final, Stratton defeated Gigi Dolin and Roxanne Perez while Lyra Valkyria overcame both Kiana James and Cora Jade. Jade had sought revenge on Valkryia in the lead-up to Battleground meaning the Irish star went into the bout with a huge target on her knee.

In the end, it was Tiffany Stratton who managed to put Valkyria away with her Prettiest Moonsault Ever to claim the championship.

Elsewhere on the show, NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes retained his title against Bron Breakker and the brand’s Tag Team Champions Gallus also held onto their gold against The Creeds.
