More WWE Stars Could Be Allegedly Gone From The Company; 25-Time Champion In Danger?
WWE recently witnessed a massive wave of roster cuts.
According to a new report, more WWE stars could be on their way out. Speaking on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Andrew Zarian revealed that he has heard WWE is planning to release more superstars. One of the names he mentioned was Tama Tonga.
Zarian believes 25-time champion Tama Tonga could be released soon, especially after he was squashed by Royce Keys on a recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown. He also noted that the move would make sense, considering Tonga’s brother, Tonga Loa, has already been released from the company.
I had heard there were more people that are still leaving. You know, we saw that squash of Tama Tonga on SmackDown. I don’t know if that means anything. Is he on the way out? His brother’s gone.”
Why WWE Released So Many Superstars This Year?
Reports suggested that WWE’s recent wave of roster cuts was done to reduce costs and make room for new talent. Dave Meltzer provided further insight, revealing another major reason behind the large number of releases (approximately 30).
According to Meltzer, WWE held back on major cuts last year following TKO Group Holdings’ takeover, as they wanted to maintain a positive image. As a result, the company made up for those delayed decisions with a much larger round of releases this year.
The story on the cuts being so many – there’s a couple of reasons behind it. What happened is essentially, last year, because they had basically just taken over the company and they were trying to be ‘good guys,’ so they didn’t order a lot of cuts last year, they kinda held back. So it’s kinda like a catch-up.”
