Mercedes Mone In Negotiations Over Her Wrestling Future

Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone caused a stir when she debuted for New Japan Pro Wrestling at Wrestle Kingdom in January 2023, and now the star could be set to extend her stay in the promotion.

Known as Sasha Banks in WWE, Mercedes Mone has reinvented herself in Japan, and in her first official NJPW match, she defeated KAIRI to become IWGP Women’s Champion. At Sakura Genesis on the 8th of April, Mone retained her championship when she defeated both AZM and Hazuki.

Mone will defend her title for only the second time against Mayu Iwatani at Stardom All Star Grand Queendom on the 23rd of April in what will be the last match of Mercedes Mone’s current NJPW contract.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Mone was in talks to add one more match to her deal with NJPW:

“They are in negotiations for one more match. Her final match of her current contract is the match this coming Sunday at the Yokohama Arena against Mayu (Iwatani) for the IWGP Women’s title. I do not know if the deal is done, it was not done the last I was told but she is in talks for one more date. I don’t know what that date would be, I don’t know if it would be Dominion or what exactly. That’s where her situation is right now.”

Mercedes Mone has previously addressed a possible shock return to WWE but those in AEW have also spoken about potentially working with the star.
