Major Free Agent Could Have WWE Deal In Place
A high-profile NJPW star could be heading to WWE.
According to a new report via Fightful Select, several sources have indicated that WWE has been keeping tabs on Jeff Cobb. In addition, one source claimed he’s already listed on the company’s internal roster, even though he wrestled for NJPW on March 12. Should that be true, it suggests that some kind of agreement is already in place.
The star has dropped several hints about his future in recent weeks, commenting that it might be “time to take my bags and go somewhere else.”
However, despite Cobb having appeared for the company previously, AEW sources don’t expect him to become All Elite.
Jeff Cobb Has Turned Down WWE Before
While he appears on the verge of signing with WWE in 2025, the company actually missed out on the star several years ago.
During an interview in 2023, Jeff Cobb confirmed he started getting calls from William Regal and others in 2020 just before the COVID-19 pandemic. This resulted in him being put in touch with the then Senior Director of Talent Development Canyon Ceman.
The pair spoke a couple of times before Cobb got “really close” to signing in mid-2021 before ultimately deciding to stay with NJPW. Cobb was also offered an AEW contract during this period, but he turned that down as well.
WWE has started 2025 with a bang, having already signed Penta, Jordynne Grace, and Ricky Starks. Meanwhile, Rey Fenix is expected to debut with the company in the coming weeks, and Malakai Black, Miro, and CJ Perry are expected to return after spells with AEW.
