A huge name in AEW is backstage at the January 21st edition of Dynamite.

The last match that AEW’s Will Ospreay competed in was at the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door PPV in his home country of England. At that event, Ospreay was on the winning team in a Lights Out tag team match.

After the match, Ospreay was brutally attacked by Jon Moxley and the Death Riders to explain his extended absence.

It was reported that Will Ospreay underwent neck surgery in mid-September and was working hard to make a comeback to the ring.

There is some positive news about Ospreay’s in-ring return, courtesy of Fightful Select, who report that Ospreay is expected to be backstage at AEW Dynamite in Orlando on January 21st.

While Ospreay will be at Dynamite, Fightful adds that he wasn’t planned for the show. Ospreay was there to get checked out by AEW’s medical team about a potential return. While it’s very early in the process, the good news is that many people expected Ospreay to be out for a full year after neck surgery, but obviously, he’ll be back a lot sooner than that.

Fightful adds that while there’s no specific timeline for Opsrey’s AEW return, the company hopes that he can be factored into plans by the spring. After Ospreay appeared at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom earlier this month, there were indications that Ospreay wouldn’t be out a full year like some people are after neck surgery.

Alex Windsor Is Optimistic About Will Ospreay’s AEW In-Ring Return

Will Ospreay’s partner is AEW’s Alex Windsor, who had an impressive 2025 in the women’s division. In December 2025, Windsor spoke with optimism about Ospreay’s ability to bounce back after neck surgery.

Of course, it has been a struggle for him, but he’s doing so well. It’s no surprise, you know, but he’s absolutely smashing it. I personally [think] he’ll be back better than ever. I have no doubt about it in my mind.

AEW Owner Tony Khan previously shared his thoughts on when he expected Ospreay back in the ring, and was also optimistic about Ospreay being able to return to action.

During his All Elite run so far, Will Ospreay is a former 2-time International Champion, who has competed for the AEW World Title, but has yet to win the company’s biggest title.
