Kurt Angle Announced For WWE Raw On August 29

Kurt Angle on the mic

One of the best WWE superstars of all time, Kurt Angle, is coming back home to WWE when the city of Pittsburgh hosts Raw on August 29th.

Angle is a Pittsburgh native that still lives in the area, so with WWE coming to town, it makes sense for Angle to be there.

It’s a similar strategy to what WWE did on the August 22nd edition of Raw when they put Toronto’s own Trish Stratus on Raw to open the show. The fans were strongly behind Stratus just like they should be with Angle in Pittsburgh as well. Stratus did a promo on Raw that was interrupted by Bayley, IO SKY & Dakota Kai. Bianca Belair, the Raw Women’s Champion, showed up to support Stratus, who looked like she wanted to fight Bayley at one point as a potential tease for a future match. Instead, it let to tag team action with SKY & Kai beating Asuka & Alexa Bliss to advance in the Women’s Tag Team Title tournament.

During his WWE career, Angle was considered by many to be the most talented performer on the roster during most of his run. While he did deal with a lot of injuries as well as issues with alcohol/painkillers, he managed to build up quite the resume.

In WWE alone, Angle was a six-time World Champion (counting WWE, WCW & World Titles), he also won the Intercontinental Title, US Title, Tag Team Tiltes, European Title and King of the Ring 2000. He also was an Olympic Gold Medallist as a freestyle wrestler in the 1996 Olympics, which Angle has mentioned a few hundred times in his life!

After leaving WWE in mid-2006, Angle spent the next decade as part of the TNA Impact Wrestling roster. Angle won their World Title six times and also won the prestigious IWGP Heavyweight Championship in Japan as well.

The announcement of Angle appearing on next week’s Raw was made during this week’s show.

Angle wrestled his last match at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 when he lost to Baron Corbin. Unlike some people in wrestling, Angle did not wrestle again after his retirement match.

The 53-year-old Angle had double knee replacement surgery in May of this year and is moving well based on social media videos. Angle was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
