Kurt Angle has explained why being paired with Paul Heyman was a great thing for his career because of Heyman’s talent as a heel.

There was a time in 2002 when Paul Heyman was the advocate (or manager) of three different wrestlers that held the WWE Title on the Smackdown brand. Brock Lesnar beat The Rock at SummerSlam 2002 to win the WWE Title with Heyman at his side. At Survivor Series 2002, Heyman turned on Lesnar and helped Big Show become the WWE Champion.

After Kurt Angle became the WWE Champion at Armageddon 2002, he would go on announce that Heyman was his manager as well.

During a recent episode of the Kurt Angle Show podcast covering the 2003 Royal Rumble event, Angle talked about how Paul Heyman became his manager in late 2002. Angle spoke about how Heyman helped him get more heat while praising Heyman as a heel.

“It was a great idea. It’s not that I needed Paul to speak for me, not at all, but he draws a lot of heat. At this particular time I was kind of a babyface so that I was having Paul on my side would draw a little bit more heat for me.”

“He was, he is, the best heel in the business, he really is. And it is because he draws a lot of heat. He’s the best promo guy I’ve ever been around. When you’re around him you learn a lot, so I was really happy to have Paul as my manager.”

Following the pairing of Angle with Heyman, the tag team known as Team Angle (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas) was introduced by Heyman to be Angle’s team.

On the podcast, Angle also talked about how Paul Heyman is such a great asset for Roman Reigns and The Bloodline in today’s WWE product as well.
