Jon Moxley has given his opinion on a 2022 match he had in AEW that he believes was a perfect match even though he doesn’t plan to watch it again.

The main event of the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in June 2022 saw Jon Moxley face off against New Japan Pro Wrestling legend Hiroshi Tanahashi for the Interim AEW World Championship.

It was a dream match for Moxley, who had already been a WWE and AEW World Champion before. Tanahashi, meanwhile, is an eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and is considered by many to be one of the greatest Japanese wrestlers ever.

That match at Forbidden Door would see Moxley pick up the win with the Death Rider after about 18 minutes. Moxley is now a three-time AEW World Champion that is heavily featured on television as part of the Blackpool Combat Club group.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Jon Moxley spoke about the match with Tanahashi and why he felt it was “perfect” while throwing in several swear words along the way.

“I’ve never watched it, and I never will. It’s one of those things that was so perfect in the moment.”

“I was supposed to wrestle Tanahashi many times, and it kept getting f—ed up for one reason or another. The relationship [between NJPW and AEW] wasn’t necessarily the best before, and I was in the middle of that. Then a couple years later, we’re doing a pay-per-view together, I’m in the main event, and it’s against Tanahashi, which was the last big dream I wanted. There were a lot of people who did a lot to bring that together, but I feel like I was the goddamn linchpin of the whole f—ing thing.”

“It was magical. The match was so f—ing perfect. It was exactly how I envisioned it. I was in such a f—ing zone. Every single second of it was exactly how I played it out in my head. If I ever watch it back, I’ll pick apart little things because I’m my own worst critic. So that’s why I won’t. It was f—ing perfect.”

Jon Moxley will be part of the NJPW Resurgence event his Sunday in Long Beach, California and also NJPW Dominion on June 4th as well.
