Johnny Gargano Comments On Rumours Of Forbidden Door Appearance

Johnny Gargano

With the prospect of surprises appearing at Forbidden Door this Sunday, Johnny Gargano has confirmed that he will be in Chicago but also noted nobody will believe him when he says he’s not appearing.

Bryan Danielson confirmed on the 22nd June 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite that he has not been medically cleared to compete in his scheduled match with ‘The Technical Wizard’ Zack Sabre Jr. at the crossover event between AEW and NJPW.

Since that point, there is plenty of speculation as to who will fill the void, and in turn become the latest member of The Blackpool Combat Club. Competitors such as Claudio Castagnoli, Lee Moriarty, and Windham Rotunda have all had their names thrown in the hat, but many have put Johnny Gargano at the top of that list.

Ever since Johnny Gargano left WWE in December 2021, he has been linked with a move to All Elite Wrestling. However, he has mentioned on a number of occasions that he has been focusing on spending time with his wife Candice LeRae who has also left WWE, and their newly-born son. To this point, he has limited his wrestling appearances to signings only.

Whilst the former NXT Champion has confirmed that he will be in Chicago this weekend, it is not for Forbidden Door but a separate appearance.

This Sunday (June 26th) I’ll be in Chicago at The Chicago Card Show presented by Midwest Sports Buffet! I’ll be signing autographs in the morning! For more info visit midwestsportsbuffet.com.

Despite saying that the booking has been in has calendar long before Forbidden Door was even announced, Johnny Gargano has acknowledged that fans may not acknowledge that it could be a coincidence.

I promise you this is ridiculously coincidental and has been booked for months. I’ll only be in Chicago for like 8 hours! *I also realize in saying this that only like 5% of you are going to believe I’m actually telling the truth.

This doesn’t complete discount Gargano’s involvement in the show, but does give the indication he will not be appearing this weekend even if he does sign with AEW further down the line.

It’s also worth noting that whoever appears against Zack Sabre Jr. will then be appearing on the following Wednesday’s Dynamite, participating in the Blood and Guts match alongside Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz to take on Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Daniel Garcia, Angelo Parker, and Matt Menard.
