A story about an insane WWE pitch involving John Cena Sr. came to light recently.

The father of the 17-time world champion is a long-time wrestling fan and even has his own podcast on YouTube.

In the final days of his son’s wrestling career, he had been vocal about the story developments by sharing his views on them.

On January 20, Netflix dropped Season 2 of WWE: Unreal on its platform, comprising five episodes like the first season. The third episode, titled “The Truth,” features a detailed account of R-Truth’s release and rehiring shortly thereafter.

The episode briefly featured John Cena Sr. attending Truth’s music release, where the two caught up and spoke before taking a couple of pictures.

Their interaction captures Truth, revealing the details of an insane storyline that would have seen Cena Sr. claiming that Truth was his runaway son. However, the idea was turned down.

John Cena’s father made multiple TV appearances, which even saw him get ‘punted’ by Randy Orton.

R-Truth’s WWE Return Was Kept A Secret

WWE: Unreal covered R-Truth’s “release” from the company extensively.

On June 1, the former United States Champion tweeted that he had been released by the Stamford promotion, which Triple H claimed in the docuseries was not the case.

The Chief Content Officer, however, admitted to there being a communication breakdown that led to confusion and the subsequent chaos.

Fortunately, both parties worked out issues behind the scenes, following which his surprise return was planned for the 2025 Money in the Bank PLE.

The series shed light on how only a handful of members were aware of the developments, including Cody Rhodes and John Cena, whereas superstars like Logan Paul and Jey Uso, and commentator Michael Cole were kept in the dark.
