John Cena Credited For Helping Former WWE Star Get Through Difficult Time
John Cena went through a lot in his legendary career as a WWE superstar, and his advice helped a former champion when they needed it most.
Candice Michelle is a former WWE Women’s Champion who is back in the pro wrestling world as a part of TNA, working behind the scenes, and potentially returning to the ring again.
During her time in WWE, she went from being hired as a model to becoming a serious wrestler and eventually a champion who looked credible in the ring against experienced wrestlers like Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Melina, and others in the Ruthless Aggression Era.
When Candice was in WWE, John Cena was a rising star who became the face of the company around 2005 as a member of the Raw roster and held the WWE Title. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Michelle shared some sage advice Cena gave her when she was going through an injury.
“He said the business goes on with or without you.
That really stuck with me because at that time I was injured and worried about losing my spot. But it made me realize that you have to take care of yourself and think long-term, because the show will keep moving whether you’re there or not.”
John Cena Gave Cody Rhodes Great Advice Constantly
When John Cena retired as a WWE superstar in December 2025 after a 23-year run on the main roster that saw him work full-time for many years, then leave for Hollywood for several years, and come back for a farewell tour, he was fulfilled as a pro wrestler.
Along the way, Cena gave a lot of great advice to wrestlers, whether it was to someone in the mid-2000s like Candice Michelle or to one of his biggest 2025 rivals, the WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
On Cody Rhodes’ “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast, just days after Cena’s final WWE match, Cody talked about some of the wisdom that John Cena shared.
“You gave me something on Saturday that did just tickle me inside. I was so glad you gave me one last piece, because you were just walking around saying thank you, like you said, trying to have meaningful moments.
And I thought it would be a quick pass-by. There was no one busier on that day than you. You came by, and you shook my hand, and you said, ‘thanks for being here’, but then you go, ‘but one thing’, and then you leaned in, and it was a whole thing about staying in the ring too long afterwards with the kid. And I thought, ‘man, even on the last night.’
Never give up and never stop learning.
