Jim Ross Says Bray Wyatt “Won’t Have Issues Finding Work”
Jim Ross has commented on the release of Bray Wyatt from WWE and reckons The Fiend’s departure is down to poor management on the company’s part as much as anything.
A former WWE Champion, Wyatt was perhaps best known for his ability to shed his skin and tweak his character, sometimes in a big way. From cult leader to eater of worlds to children’s TV host, and a demonic Fiend, Wyatt had a career like no other in the company before his release at the end of July.
Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, current AEW announcer Jim Ross gave his own thoughts on the situation. Ross suggested that Wyatt’s salary may have played a role in his departure. However, JR explained that the situation was the result of poor management, as it made no sense to pay Wyatt so much, but fail to use him on television:
“There’s politics nowadays because of the immense salaries. Bray Wyatt gets cut, he’s got to be making north of a million on a downside guarantee and he’s been sitting home. That’s not good management.”
Wyatt hadn’t competed in the ring for WWE since his bout with Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37 and made his last on-screen appearance on the night after on Raw where he hosted his final Firefly Funhouse segment.
Ross continued:
“I’m not saying the guy should’ve been cut, he should’ve been used if you’re going to pay him that kind of cash. How that happened is a story for another day because I don’t know the details. I do know they got rid of a very talented kid and I’m sure he won’t have any issues finding work.”
Jim Ross also discussed the idea of AEW potentially adding more Championships. The WWE Hall of Famer said that he doesn’t feel more belts are necessary as the company is doing the right thing in making their current titles appear important.
“AEW doesn’t have a Junior Heavyweight Title, I’m not advocating it either. Too many titles really spoils the soup for me, you don’t need that many. I heard somebody say the other day they hoped AEW had a six-man tag title and I wouldn’t be against it but it wouldn’t be something I’d be breaking my door down and running up and down the halls for.”
“It’s hard to maintain a positive focus on multiple titles. Which one is the most important? I think that the trend nowadays is let’s just add more titles, it’ll solve our issues. No, it doesn’t and if you get too many they become watered down. I’m very proud of the fact that in AEW we have three primary titles. One for the women and then two singles titles for the men. I think that’s about right, if you’re a female competitor you know what your goal is.”
“The TNT title that Miro is holding is certainly one that is reminiscent of a TV Title in my opinion. I’m not lessening it, that’s just what it reminds me of. Of course the big title is the one Kenny Omega is holding, I think we’re doing that right. Just adding titles to make talent happy is really bullsh*t.”
Since being released, Wyatt has remained mostly silent. However, the former WWE Superstar recently hinted that ‘The Fiend’ may continue outside of WWE. Posting on social media, Wyatt shared a cryptic photo with the caption, “You can’t kill it.”
