Jim Ross Thinks AEW Made Huge Mistake With New Star

Jim Ross in AEW

AEW announcer Jim Ross thinks the company has made a key booking error with one star who has only been in the company a matter of weeks.

At Dynamite Grand Slam, MVP made his AEW debut following weeks of ever-increasing speculation. The star was quickly joined on-screen by Shelton Benjamin and plans to reinvent the Hurt Business were well underway as they set their sights on luring Swerve Strickland away from Prince Nana.

However, Strickland rebuffed MVP’s advances to stick by Nana leading to a match at Fright Night Dynamite between the former AEW World Champion and Benjamin which Strickland won. However, the night was far from done as former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley made his debut in AEW and laid out Strickland.

Bobby Lashley had his Hurt Syndicate partners MVP and Shelton Benjamin backing him up as he scored a dominant win over Swerve Strickland at Full Gear. But Jim Ross thinks AEW has made a crucial error – but not with The All Mighty star.

Jim Ross Not Happy With Shelton Benjamin’s Treatment

Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross explained why he felt the company was wrong to relegate Shelton Benjamin to a background player underneath Lashley:

They quickly make Shelton a secondary player which I think is a mistake. He’s a star and a hell of an athlete. He can do things nobody else can and do it effortlessly. He’s that good.

After a big win at Full Gear over Swerve Strickland that JR called, the WWE Hall of Famer noted that he thinks there is more to come from the two major stars:

I don’t think it’s a one off. I just don’t know how far it’s going to go and all that, but yeah, it’ll be good. Both those guys are excellent talents.

Jim Ross might be buoyed by the announcement that Shelton Benjamin is part of the Continental Classic where he will get to show his class in the Blue League.
