Jim Cornette Lavishes Praise On “Perfect” WWE Star

Jim Cornette

Jim Cornette has high praise for one WWE star he describes as “perfect.”

The main event of the September 4th episode of Monday Night Raw saw Chad Gable once again attempt to unseat Gunther as Intercontinental Champion, though as in the past, Gable was unsuccessful. Gunther’s victory ensured that he would enter the record books as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in the company’s history, breaking the Honky Tonk Man’s previous record that stood for more than 30 years.

Speaking on a recent episode of his Drive Thru podcast, legendary manager Jim Cornette heaped praise on the Raw main event and explained why Gunther is “rare and unusual” in the modern landscape.

“This was an excellent match and Gunther again, he never has a bad match never does anything he shouldn’t do. His style is perfect for his look. His look is perfect for his style. His basics, his timing, his technique, for me are a pleasure to watch because it’s so rare and unusual anymore, that somebody actually works and looks and acts and moves like a professional wrestler.” (h/t Inside the Ropes)

Gunther Wasn’t Surprised By His Own Record-Breaking Success

Speaking in a backstage interview following his latest successful defense, the Imperium leader reflected on his accomplishment, saying he’s not surprised he was able to hold the championship for such a long time.

“What’s going through my mind? I’m not surprised. From the moment on I won this prestigious championship, I saw the vision. I envisioned this very moment, that I’m the one to redefine history, redefine the legacy of the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship. I heard them talking, I heard them discussing their childhood heroes, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels. I heard them them talk about Steve Austin, The Rock.

“The reality is, when that bell rings, they all can come line up and lace my boots. Because as long as I’m alive, there’s no man born yet to take this title off me again.” (h/t Fightful)
