Jeff Hardy Decided To Leave AEW Due To Ex-Champion
Jeff Hardy has lifted the curtain on his AEW departure.
After being released from WWE in late 2021, he made his debut on the Jacksonville promotion in March 2022, where his older sibling, Matt Hardy, had already been competing since 2020.
During his first appearance on the March 9 episode of Dynamite, Jeff saved Matt from an attack by Team AHFO.
After competing in a few matches, he was suspended in June due to being arrested for driving under the influence. As a result, he was replaced by Johnny Hardy to team up with Matt at Triplemania XXX.
Jeff Hardy returned to the company the following year in April, again saving his brother from an attack.
In a match against Sammy Guevara on February 14, 2024, at AEW Rampage, he suffered a broken nose, which would incidentally be his final appearance in the company.
The 48-year-old is currently signed to TNA, and so is Matt Hardy, where the siblings serve as the World Tag Team Champions in their fourth reign.
Jeff Hardy Reveals Watching Will Ospreay Made Him Quit AEW
Will Ospreay is a generational talent, known for performing a lot of risky moves.
During a recent appearance on the I Love Wrestling Podcast, Jeff Hardy looked back on his time in AEW.
Jeff recounted his contract nearing its end, leading him to think about whether he wanted to take the new deal and build himself into an elevated version.
There was a part of me that said, I wonder if I just take this deal from AEW and try to… build myself up to this amazing superhero wrestler and stay there for a year and see how things go.
He then revealed watching Will Ospreay wrestle, which helped him arrive at a conclusive decision, as he opted against signing again.
But then I was watching a Will Ospreay match and I was like, no, I need to go back to TNA. I need to go to TNA. That’s where I need to be, tag with my brother and do the Hardys thing and help them evolve.
So yeah, I think everything worked out exactly the way it was supposed to. We’re exactly where we should be.
Jeff Hardy’s response is a testament to the dangers that exist in the wrestling business, especially because Ospreay has been out of action since August last year due to injury.
