Major Update On Jay White Potentially Signing With WWE

The future of Jay White has led to a lot of guessing including a deal with the biggest wrestling company, but a new report suggests he may not be WWE bound.

Jay White has officially been a wrestling free agent for about three days since his New Japan Pro Wrestling contract expired on February 28th.

Over the first two months of 2023, Jay White lost the IWGP World Heavyweight Title to Kazuchika Okada, lost a Loser Leaves Japan match to Hikuleo and lost a Loser Leaves NJPW match to Eddie Kingston as well.

It is believed that the 30-year-old New Zealander was going to sign a new contract with either WWE or AEW. It seemed as though WWE was the favorite to land White, but that may not be the case.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote about how there is no confirmation that White is headed to WWE while some people affiliated with NJPW don’t know about it.

“Jay White is now officially a free agent as of 2/28. While all the circumstances seem to indicate he’s headed to WWE, there has still been no confirmation of that. If he is going to WWE, it’s not something well known within the company by many because multiple people who normally know haven’t heard his name mentioned.”

The reason that WWE was the favorite to land White is due to WWE having no affiliation to NJPW while AEW works together with NJPW often including at Forbidden Door last year, which White was a part of.

Just because some people in NJPW are unaware of it doesn’t mean that White to WWE is completely off the table.
