Following the recent happenings on WWE SmackDown, many have begun questioning Triple H’s position as the head of creative in the company.

The April 3 edition of Friday Night SmackDown saw Pat McAfee make a surprise return and join forces with Randy Orton against Cody Rhodes.

According to reports, the decision to involve McAfee in one of WWE’s top storylines so close to WrestleMania 42 came directly from TKO management, specifically TKO CEO Ari Emanuel. It was done to capitalize on corporate synergy with ESPN ahead of WrestleMania’s broadcast debut on the network.

After it was revealed that McAfee’s involvement was not a decision made by Triple H but rather by TKO officials, many fans began questioning online whether Triple H still has any real authority in the company’s on-screen direction.

Triple H Is Stil The In Charge if WWE Creative

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported on Saturday evening that Triple H is still the head of creative. He confirmed that Hunter continues to “lead the week-to-week operations and oversees the vast majority of WWE Raw, SmackDown, and Premium Live Event creative.”

Pat McAfee’s return storyline has become a controversial topic as WWE heads toward its biggest premium live event of the year. On Friday Night SmackDown, McAfee delivered an off-script promo where he criticized the current WWE product and low WrestleMania 42 ticket sales, which reportedly caught Triple H and WWE completely off guard.

In response to McAfee’s unscripted promo, WWE had to send Cody Rhodes to the ring for an unplanned segment later in the night, where he delivered a retaliatory shoot-style promo while addressing the growing creative tensions between WWE and its parent company, TKO.

Reports say TKO’s micromanagement in WWE storyline has led many within the company to grow legitimately concerned. Even the fans are not happy with the corporate influence.
