Huge Last-Minute Vince McMahon Decision Revealed By Ex-WWE Star: “Just To Mess With Me”
A former WWE star recalled how Vince McMahon made a last-minute decision to apparently mess with him. The star in question is Luke Menzies (formerly known as Ridge Holland).
Luke Menzies was with the WWE from 2018 under the name ‘Ridge Holland’ until last year. He is known for his main roster run alongside Sheamus and Butch in The Brawling Brutes. Menzies was also moved to NXT following his main roster run in 2023. The 37-year-old star got released by the Stamford-based promotion in November 2025.
The erstwhile Ridge Holland faced a lot of backlash for being responsible for Big E’s neck injury during a match in 2022, which also led to E’s in-ring retirement.
Ex-WWE star on how Vince McMahon changed his decision last-minute regarding an apology segment
After Big E got injured due to a suplex by the ex-WWE star, Luke Menzies (fka Ridge Holland), Menzies was asked to publicly apologize for the same. Speaking on Wrestling Life Online, Menzies recalled how Vince McMahon asked him to issue an apology live on SmackDown after Big E’s injury, and he was ready for it:
I remember the week after Vince had… we were supposed to go out for a segment on SmackDown, and Vince had arranged for me to cut an apology promo just before we were about to go out live.”
Now, I don’t know if this was a test… pretty poor taste, but we were about to go out for our segment when it was live, and I remember him counting me down. It was just like an apology thing, and I didn’t know what I was going to say. I was just going to be as real as I could, speak from the heart.”
The erstwhile Ridge Holland also revealed that the producers gave him a countdown for the segment before Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard cut the segment at the last minute:
And it went like 10, 9, 8… and it got to 5, 4… and then I saw Vince and Bruce just go like that, and they cut it at the last minute, the last second. Then we just went out for the segment.”
Luke Menzies concluded that Vince was just messing with him by asking him to cut an apology promo:
From then on, I never felt the same way about the company. I thought that is just… they did that just to mess with me.” [H/T ITRWrestling]
Luke Menzies last competed in TNA in September last year, and has yet to make in-ring return since his WWE release.
