How Cody Rhodes’ Family Reacted To Injury Before WWE Hell In A Cell Match
Cody Rhodes had the support of his family going into one of the most famous matches of his WWE career.
The city of Chicago will host the WWE Elimination Chamber PLE on February 28th, and it’s a city that means a lot to the former 2-time WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
When Cody Rhodes faced Seth Rollins at the WWE Hell in a Cell PLE in June 2022, it was in the Allstate Arena in Chicago, which is different from this year’s Elimination Chamber, which will be in the United Center.
That match at Hell in a Cell saw Cody wrestle in the match with a torn pectoral muscle on the right side. Cody tore his pec while weightlifting and would miss the rest of the year before returning to win the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble.
Cody Rhodes’ Family Wanted Him To Compete At Hell In A Cell Despite Serious Injury
While looking back at Hell in a Cell 2022 and his torn pectoral injury, Cody Rhodes told CHGO Sports that his wife, Brandi, and his mother were not sympathetic to his injury.
“My mother and my wife are not sympathetic figures. My mom is like a feisty Cuban woman who, as soon as an argument happens, takes her glasses off, at 71.
Brandi had been around the business so much, and me… There wasn’t one person in the room going, ‘Oh, you should just go get surgery.’
I remember her words, ‘Well, you have to do it. It’s your first main event in the company, Peacock subs had jumped for it, you have to do it.’
My mom just thought it was another day at the office. I thought, ‘Well, that’s a unique family.’”
Cody Rhodes would go on to win the Hell in a Cell match with Rollins, thanks to the support of his “unique family” and a sledgehammer shot to the head. It was one of the best matches of that year and one of the most memorable matches Cody has ever had.
Next up for Cody Rhodes is the Men’s Elimination Chamber match as he tries to earn a shot at the WWE Title held by Drew McIntyre.
